Breast Cancer Surgery

Combining oncology surgery and plastic surgery has created a new surgical option for breast cancer patients called oncoplastic surgery. This provides many breast cancer patients with an option to remove the cancerous tumours while restoring the breast back to its natural shape.

A breast cancer vaccine currently being tested in a Phase II trial has demonstrated to be safe and well tolerated in patients according to a paper to be published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Evista - Breast Cancer Drug

Women who were at a higher risk of breast cancer have been using the drug Evista (Raloxifene) to reduce their risk.  A new study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute has given indication that this drug also appears to reduce the risk of breast cancer in other women.

With the worldwide death toll from breast cancer reported at over 500,000 women annually, breast cancer research has been concentrating mostly on finding a cure for the disease.  However, one group of researchers have recently developed a new drug that cuts the risk associated with the recurrance of breast cancer by one-third.
